India’s Experience with ICT in the Health Sector

Venkata Ravi Kiran Kolla

Abstract

Northern and eastern India's health-care difficulties are similar to those of Sub-Saharan Africa. Both India and Africa have a severe lack of physicians, particularly specialists such as ophthalmologists, radiologists, cardiologists, oncologists, and others. Specialists and their services are concentrated in cities, leaving rural communities without assistance. In India, over 68% of the population lives in rural regions, where doctors and health care professionals are in limited supply. In Sub-Saharan Africa, there are less than 10 doctors for every 100,000 inhabitants, and 14 nations lack even a single radiologist. India and Africa have a high burden of infectious illnesses, a rising pandemic of noncommunicable diseases, a double burden of malnutrition, urbanisation, a scarcity of healthcare workers, and a medicine shortage.
