The Digital Transformation of Healthcare
Abstract
As the United States makes extraordinary efforts to digitise its health-care system, and policymakers around the world look to information technology (IT) to make health-care systems safer, more affordable, and more accessible, a rare and remarkable opportunity for the information systems research community to leverage its in-depth knowledge to both advance theory and influence practise and policy has emerged. Although health information technology (HIT) offers enormous promise to enhance quality and decrease costs in healthcare, considerable difficulties must be solved before this potential can be fully realised. We survey the landscape of existing HIT studies in this commentary to provide an overview of the current state of HIT research.
